Kids Learn to Sail

Our sailing program is designed to support sailors in their desire to learn, have fun, and experience competitive racing in a welcoming club.

About the course...

Learning to sail is an enjoyable and adventurous journey for all kids! Not only is sailing about having fun, but it teaches young kids how to be independant, resilient, and how to work towards achieving their goals.

Our program is perfectly suited for kids aged 7-12 to learn the basic sailing skills required to crew or steer a small dinghy. Over 13 weeks of Sunday morning sailing, your kids will enjoy a range of activities to learn basic essential knowledge and of course, have FUN! This course is delivered by accredited Australian Sailing Instructors and experienced sailors from the club.
This 13-week course will take place on Sunday mornings, between 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM, starting in October.
There is a break over the Christmas and New Year holiday period while sailing regattas on Sydney Harbour are underway. The course continues through January and February, before finishing up in March.
We just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for all of the time & attention you gave to make the Manly 16’s Learn to Sail Program, we think it was a success. As we said when we spoke with you on the last day, Tom & Ollie throughly enjoyed attending each week & gained much useful knowledge about all the elements of sailing. It was wonderful to see the kids out in the boats on the water being given the required guidance as they learnt to read the weather conditions & control the boat. Tom was at first hesitant about the idea of sailing but it was great to see him grow in confidence each week until he was comfortable to take on the responsibility. Both boys came away with more confidence & many skills.
We were very impressed with the whole program including the detailed information updates, the boats being ready each week and the commitment & knowledge of the two young boys who also assisted. The positive energy & the culture you & the other instructors instilled in the class are a testment to how passionate you are about sailing & it is wonderful that you can share this passion with the kids.

What happens after the course is finished?

The next stage of Junior Sailing at Manly 16's is to progress into the Manly Junior & Flying 11 classes. The Junior fleets run regular weekend racing with on-water coaches supporting the sailors.

Junior sailing parents are encouraged to be actively involved with the program either on or off the water. Both kids and parents have the opportunity to meet lots of new people, form lifelong friendships, and have fun!
